The Grammar of Modern Cornish first appeared in 1983 and since then it has become established as the most comprehensive description of the contemporary language and the name ‘Modern’ reflects that fact. It uses the common system of pronunciation and spelling which in turn is based on the language of the classical texts. For this reason the book also as a guide to the grammar and syntax of those works.

The textbook has a traditional approach to grammar but is written in a lucid style with numerous examples, ample cross-references and comprehensive indexes. This third edition incorporates the results of recent research and is an essential tool in the hands of those who would use modern Cornish in all its riches.

Wella Brown was a bard of the Gorsedh of Cornwall and a long serving member of its Council. For many years, he was the General Secretary of the Cornish Language Board. He was an experienced teacher and was the author of the widely used Skeul an Yeth series of course books and has published a collection of short stories An Koes a Ven ha Hwedhlow Erell.
