Description
The medieval Cornish drama on the life of St. Meryasek patron saint of Camborne.
Edited by Dr Roger Courtenay.
Bewnans Meryasek is a medieval Cornish play that dramatises the life of St. Meryasek, patron saint of Camborne. It also contains additional exciting tales, including a scene in which Pope Silvester defeats a man-eating dragon.
The play is presented in its original manuscript spelling, alongside a transliteration in modern Standard Written Form (SWF) Cornish and an English translation. It is suitable for both speakers and non-speakers of Cornish.
This edition includes a guide to the mechanics of how the play would have been originally performed in the circular plen-an-gwari open air theatres of Cornwall.
Essential reading for everyone interested in Cornish history and culture, as well as British theatrical history and literature.
