Would you like to be part of this exciting venture?
REVIVE is a 3-year Horizon Europe project led by Anglia Ruskin University, bringing together researchers and language communities to explore how immersive digital media and storytelling can help with the revival of endangered languages – focusing on Cornish and Griko (Italy).
We need volunteers for 2 roles in workshops taking place from Oct ’25 to March ’26, in Cornwall and online:
Co-creators crafting compelling stories about the Cornish Language
Citizen scientists documenting the process as observers
If you are interested in either of these roles, please let us know by 19th September. Complete the form below or send the same details by email to Kensa Broadhurst at [email protected].
There will be further volunteer opportunities during the production and exhibition phases of the project.
Travel expenses can be paid.
Co-Creator Role
Do you have a story about the Cornish Language to tell? Are you using Cornish Language in music, dance, film, sport or other Cornish cultural activities? Are you passionate about spreading Cornish and increasing its use and visibility across Cornwall? Then we’d love you to be involved.
As a ’co-creator’ you will help to create compelling stories about the Cornish Language, working together with NowHere Media, who are based in Berlin. You will bring your knowledge of Cornish language and culture, while NowHere Media will bring technical expertise and experience of devising immersive stories.
12-15 volunteers are needed from Oct 25 to March 26.
NowHere Media will be in Cornwall for one week in October (w/b Oct 20th). Volunteers will need to attend one local co-creation workshop early in that week and one all Cornwall co-creation workshop later in that week (2 x 2 hours). There will also be an opportunity to explore the technology on offer to us and see how it has been used elsewhere during a day of demonstrations (as many hours as you wish).
There will be 6 further workshops to select and develop ideas and storylines. These workshops will take place roughly every 2 weeks during November, December and January (6 x 2 hours). They will be a mix of in person and online. Timing and location of the workshops to be arranged, depending on the needs of the volunteers (daytime or evening, online or in person).
NowHere Media will return to Cornwall next March/ April to finalise the selected storylines, plan their pro-duction, and perhaps start their creation.
Citizen Scientist Role
Do you have an interest in research? Would you like to be trained in new research skills? Do you enjoy ‘people watching?’ Are you passionate about spreading Cornish and increasing its use and visibility across Cornwall? Then we’d love you to be involved.
We need 3-5 volunteers to act as observers helping to document and evaluate the workshops taking place in Cornwall and online in which we will be creating compelling stories about the Cornish Language.
Volunteers will be needed from Sept 25 to March 26.
In Sept 25 there will be 2 training sessions. In these you will: gain an understanding of core qualitative research concepts and methods; learn how ethnography and diary keeping relate to citizen science; explore ethical considerations in field research; and practise diary writing techniques for observation and reflection.
NowHere Media will be in Cornwall for one week in October (w/b Oct 20th). Volunteers will need to attend one local workshop early in that week and one all Cornwall workshop later in that week (2 x 2 hours). There will also be an opportunity to explore the technology on offer to us for the REVIVE project and see how it has been used elsewhere during a day of demonstrations (as many hours as you wish).
There will be 6 further workshops to select and develop ideas and storylines (see left) and you will be expected to observe as many of these as possible. NB Precise planning is impossible at this stage of a creative project, so flexibility will be needed on all sides.
Certificates of participation will be issued by Anglia Ruskin University.
