Description
“As soon as I knew about it, the Cornish Prophecy of Merlin drew me, like a magnet!” – Julyan Holmes
A Cornish translation of Merlin’s prophecy, from a Latin manuscript found in the Vatican Library.
In the 1140s Iohannis Cornubiensis, John of Cornwall, published Prophetia Merlini, which he claimed was his Latin translation of an ancient manuscript in Old Cornish. This makes it the oldest surviving piece of Cornish literature, Cornish not just because of its subject or location, but because John’s notes included extracts in the original language. This ancient manuscript has since disappeared, if it ever existed.
This book is a translation of the Latin text by Julyan Holmes, in Cornish with a parallel English text.
